Step 5: Homework Assignment

Select a Middle Eastern song that you would consider dancing to in a show. The song should be no more than 5 minutes long. Without using any accessories, film yourself dancing improv to this music. This assignment assumes that you have not choreographed anything to this music and that you are truly improvising your steps. If you cheat, you are ultimately cheating on what you may be learning from this exercise. Please do not submit something that you have perfected. You want to truly improvise and then objectively review yourself.
View the film you just made, and then film yourself answering the following questions:

• Identify the song by artist/album/track.
• Why did you select this piece of music? What about this song makes you want to perform in public to it?
• Did your dance steps flow and connect? How were your arm movements? Your body alignment? What do you feel you did well?
• What feelings were you trying to emote? Why are those feelings appropriate for this music selection?
• What were you thinking while you were improvising?
• What did you feel you did not do well and need to improve?
• Did anything unexpected happen while you were improvising? If so, what was it and how did you handle it? If not, recall a show in the past in which you performed and something unexpected happened. What was it and how did you handle it?

Please upload the video to YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox, Google Drive, One Drive, etc.

Upload your documents to your favorite cloud storage provider and create a shared link. Once the link has been created, submit that link in the text box on the Homework Assignment.
